Learn German differently !
A course to learn German grammar and a basic vocabulary of 3000 words!
A German grammar course for who?
- For students in post-obligatory schooling or for self-educated learners with a basic knowledge of German.
- The course presupposes knowledge of A2 level in the European framework of languages. Level 1 of the course covers the demands of level B1, level 2 those of levels B2 and C1.
A method to do what (with)?
To learn German grammar with modern vocabulary, with sentences often close to real life, if possible in a context of communication.
To learn and also to practise German vocabulary (about 3000 words) with software of the latest generation!
What is distinctive about the method?
- Each grammar chapter is completed by exercises of two, often three levels.
- The software is completed by a grammar book, an exercise book, a correction book and a logbook that facilitates auto evaluation, but the method can be done entirely on the computer, or entirely without it.
- The exercises are varied. Over 500 exercises cover all the grammar that is necessary to obtain B1 and B2 levels (European Framework of reference for languages).
- The vocabulary used for the grammar exercises is mainly based on B1 vocabulary, but certain exercises allow you to revise thematic B2 vocabulary.
- The basic vocabulary of about 3000 words can be practised in many ways : flashcards, crosswords, hidden words, on the trail of words, coded words, the hangman, memory games, mixed letters, separated words, etc. (cf. our screen shots)
- Each exercise is headed by objectives and instructions.
- At the end of each chapter, the student can do revision exercises.
- An autoevaluation exercise concludes the learning cycle of the chapter. Some exercises are extended on the internet.
- The method can be practised entirely in a computer room, in a classroom, or at home.
What is distinctive about the I.T. support ?
- The programme used has been developed in parallel with the method.
- It works on Mac and Windows operating systems, and soon on iPhone and Android.
- It offers a large variety of work(sentences to compose, gap-fill texts, elements to insert, multiple choice, translations, oral comprehension, hidden words, mixed letters, missing letters, crosswords etc.).
- Each exercise gives access to the relevant grammatical help pages online.
- Difficult words are highlighted at the student's request. (Kleiner Tipp)
- The answers take the many possibilities into account.
- A rapport allows students to have an overall view of their performance at the end of each exercise.
- One of the method's great strengths are the commented mistakes:
- We have studied and listed the mistakes made by students. If the student makes one of the many listed mistakes, the programme gives him or her an explanation in relation to the mistake and sometimes suggests a direct link to the chapter that explains the grammatical point.
How can you integrate the method into a pedagogical approach ?
- “Im Falle eines Falles” focuses on the learning of grammar. The method is therefore complementary to another one that practises the four linguistic competences.
- It allows for work in the classroom thanks to the paper support (grammar book, exercise book, correction book and logbook). The paper support is also indicated for homework.
- The software puts emphasis on autonomous learning. The logbook guarantees a rigorous follow-up and control.
The student or learner has the option to sign up for a determinate period and to use the software at home on PC or Mac - and, in a not too distant future, on iPad or Android operating system.
- Depending on the school's capacity, the computer work is done with the entire classroom or in small groups.
A course made for a teaching and learning evaluation.
Im Falle eines Falles allows the student to situate his/her progress in relation to a given objective. An error is no longer a mistake, but a source of education and progress. The internal links allow the student to look for the information sought with ease. Thanks to the information supplied by the programme and the logbook, the teacher can also supervise or guide the learning experience. Moreover, the teacher has more time to dedicate to each student.
